BOCA RATON, FL (January 4, 2012) – Baker Sponder Gallery announces the upcoming exhibition of new paintings by Ben Schonzeit. The exhibition opens on Thursday, February 14th from 6-8pm
Ben Schonzeit, a leader of the American Photorealism movement, paints magically evocative pictures with a Surrealist edge. His works rely on the use of cameras and photographs to gather visual information to create a painting that appears photographic. Schonzeit contributed to the genre with his pioneering use of the airbrush enabling him to emphasize the subject as sharp while de-emphasizing the background as out of focus.
Schonzeit is best known for his gorgeous, over-sized still life paintings that explore the artists’ dream world depicting flowers in bloom or a tray of decadent pastries. His methodical approach to painting combined with a complete control of his medium connects him to one of the greatest genres in American art. During his four decade career, Schonzeit has exhibited in over one hundred important exhibitions.
